IN-HOUSE
CAPABILITIES
CNC MACHINING
First Millwork has in-house capabilities to CNC machine wood, plastics or metals. We are one of very few custom architectural component fabricators to possess these capabilities in house.
CNC short for Computer Numerical Control, allows us to translate 2D and 3D computer designs into physical reality.
Our CR Onsrud 5’x12’ router can machine wood and plastics in 2D for cabinetry components to 3D for complex shapes, millwork profiles and signage.
Our HAAS VF-4 3 axis CNC mill processes a 20” x 20” x 50” machining envelope and can machine complex shapes in metal. This allows us to produce architectural elements including hardware, lighting and any custom design or accent element.
CUSTOM DOOR PRODUCTION
We design and engineer custom doors of any size. Utilizing our in-house technology and machining we can assemble 5’x12’ raised panel doors using our 2500# pneumatic clamp. We can also build flat panel doors of any size using lightweight cores to reduce weight and maintain stability.
Because we use the finest products on the market, each door system we produce is designed and engineered to be high quality and stable, providing years of dependability.
FINISHES
Our in-house Finish Department allows First Millwork to provide a variety of finishes from simple priming services to high gloss finishes, to old word hand rubbed French polishing, multi stage finishes and cerusing.
Our team are experts at Faux finishes, color matching and dealing with the most challenging conditions.
We provide complete interior, exterior residential painting and exclusive, complex finishes for specific rooms.
INSTALLATION
Foremost Trim Inc. is the installation division of our group. Installation is our foundation. We began as an installation company and in a short period of time became recognized as one of the area's leading trim installation companies. Our long-term focus has always been to be part of the contractor's team while looking for other areas we could offer value and maintain our professional goals.
As our work became respected we were asked to provide additional services to our clients, hence the creation of First Millwork Inc.
We saw the opportunity to provide vertical integration as a benefit to our clients and were able to facilitate management and value on levels previously not available.
The combination of capabilities allows for greater flexibility, more accurate installations and superior final results.

DESIGN
Our design staff has decades of knowledge and experience. From building and installing architectural components combined with automotive, marine and aircraft capability, they provide us with unmatched design and engineering expertise. Designing and building sophisticated highly mechanized high tolerance componentry provides a background to create the most challenging architectural products.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND MOCK-UPS
First Millwork offers a variety of methods to assist in visualization and confirmation of design intent.
Starting with design support and 3D CAD modeling to full photo realistic renderings we can help.

From hand-built models to SLA printed models or CNC we can take simple profiles or complex assembles and ensure that they are agreeable for the final product.
MATERIAL SELECTION
Material selection goes beyond the species of lumber that is desired.

The importance of proper material selection contributes to the beauty and longevity of the end result.

At First Millwork we go to great lengths to understand the precise material selection for each project.

In addition to local sources we have travelled great distances to identify and find the correct materials directly from unique suppliers.

Correct species, grain, cut, and quality are crucial to providing high-quality finished products.
MILLWORK
First Millwork provides a variety of complex running trim profiles from our catalog of several thousand.

Our custom built 6 head Weinig molder is designed for quality with heavy duty motors and spindles to produce trim up to 10” wide.

We also utilize many other machines from our Shopfox 1812 to multi head shapers for curved or specific sized products.

Because we offer custom products, we are geared to run products slower than production houses for the best surface quality.
SCANNING
First Millwork uses a Lidar scanner capable of gathering 360,000 points of data per second and can capture a full 360 degree scan in 3 minutes on medium resolution with incredible dimensional accuracy. This service provides numerous benefits:
-
Measuring of spaces prior to building cabinetry and built-ins to ensure dimensional accuracy, build tolerance and completeness. Efficiency of time and site visits being minimized with data recording.
-
Design recreation for historical restoration or when “as built” designs are unavailable. We have the ability to scan a complete building both inside and out to recreate complete designs.
-
High-dynamic range and Thermal imaging.
WIRE BRUSHING
We utilize our 24” wide double wire brush to efficiently enhance the appearances of lumber and metals.
We can provide a brushed or polished look to metals.
For softwoods, the soft grain is removed and the harder grain stays standing providing a rustic or weathered look.
For hardwoods, the grain will open for the enhancement of finish applications like cerusing.
